Emblem Book by Adrien Gambart

A facsimile edition with a study by Elisabeth Stopp, this volume includes the late Elisabeth Stopp’s previously unpublished study of Gambart’s book with a complete color facsimile of the original book (1664). This remarkable work was inspired by the life and writings of Francis de Sales. Each one of the fifty-two emblems reflects on an episode from Francis’s life or one of his virtues. Stopp’s study offers an English translation of the key observations found in Gambart’s French text.
