A very readable 1988 translation by Oblate Joseph Bowler of the 1985 French Biography of Francis de Sales by a Jesuit scholar of both St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal. It is authoritative, well-written and quite manageable as a good biography for someone who wants to learn the details of the Saint’s life, and is frequently assigned as part of course work when one is studying Salesian spirituality. Sixteen well distinguished chapters broken down by numerous subtitles.
